Meet Dr. May-Anh
“Changing your life is just our first step together. I’m here to help you stay there — for good.”
— Dr. May-Anh
That belief in lasting care—through every phase of your journey—is what drives everything Dr. May-Anh does.
Dr. May-Anh Nguyen grew up in a multicultural home between Montréal and Toronto in Canada, speaking English, French, and Vietnamese. Her upbringing gave her a deep appreciation for inclusion, empathy, and the importance of being understood—values that have become central to how she practices medicine today.
She studied abroad at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, was selected for General Surgery Residency at University of Toronto, then completed a highly competitive fellowship at Harvard Medical School focused on Advanced Minimally Invasive GI and Bariatric Surgery. Throughout her studies, she won numerous awards and has been published in highly-regarded international scientific journals. Her global education helped shape not only her skills, but her worldview. She is double board-certified.
“Training and living around the world taught me that medicine isn’t just about what we do—it’s how we make people feel,” she says.
Now based in San Jose, Dr. May-Anh is the first female Asian bariatric surgeon in the region. She’s known for her thoughtful, patient-first approach and her deep commitment to lifelong care. Fluent in English, French, and Vietnamese (and currently learning Spanish), she welcomes patients from all backgrounds into a space that’s warm, inclusive, and supportive. She is currently the Vice-President of the Vietnamese Physician Association of Northern California.
Her approach goes far beyond surgery. Dr. May-Anh works closely with each patient to build a personalized path toward long-term health—offering ongoing support in nutrition, mental wellness, physical activity, and more with the help of her allied healthcare team including nurses, nutritionists, and psychologists.
Outside the practice, Dr. May-Anh is a wife and mother. She and her husband, Dr. Mike Hajek, an ENT surgeon, are raising their daughter Sophie and son Maximilian to embrace both their Vietnamese heritage and multicultural identity—with values rooted in kindness, resilience, and community.
“If you’re ready for a change, I’m here to walk that road with you,” she says. “Because transformation shouldn’t just be temporary—it should be for good.”
